Synonym(s): Divergent Strabismus

Definition: Lateral deviation outside the EYE (as opposed to ESOTROPIA, where the deviation is medial).

Additional information for professionals: This deviation forms DIVERGENT STRABISM and results in the non-perception of one of the images of both eyes or, conversely, DIPLOPIA. It is rarer than ESOTROPIA and appears following strong MYOPIA (most frequently), AMBLYOPIA or due to central involvement.
