Definition: This term refers to a group of metabolic abnormalities of the CORNEA, always resulting in bilateral opacification of the different layers of the cornea.

Additional information for professionals: These are genetic diseases, classified according to the layer of the cornea affected (epithelial, granular, grilled, macular and endoepithelial) and often require Keratoplasty. They are rare, the most widespread being FUCHS ENDOTHELIAL DYSTROPHIA.
